Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the form of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state early analysis suggest the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to solve the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of immigrant origin in February 2020.
