Multiple Injured as Rough Air Impacts A Delta Airlines Plane Landing at Sydney, Australia

A number of individuals were hurt following a Delta aircraft from Los Angeles to Sydney, Australia was hit by turbulence this past Friday.

Flight DL41 "went through a short bout of rough air" as it touched down at Sydney Airport, a company official informed. Four flight attendants required medical attention.

Local paramedics said they treated five patients, and transferred a trio to the hospital with relatively minor issues that such as pain in the back and headaches. Those affected were between their 30s up to the 70s.

The event represents the latest incident of planes encountering turbulence, with researchers saying that shifting climate patterns is a key driver.

The aircraft was carrying 245 passengers and 15 crew members on the Airbus A350, the representative added, clarifying that the plane touched down "safely and normally" at the airport at shortly before 7 a.m. on Friday morning.

Paramedics indicated they were alerted just three minutes prior to the plane arrived, and emergency vehicles were waiting on the tarmac.

The reasons turbulence is becoming more common - and potentially more dangerous.

During the past year, two dozen individuals were injured when a separate Delta aircraft, flying from Salt Lake City to Amsterdam, hit "considerable" atmospheric disturbance just 120 minutes into the transoceanic journey, and had to make an unscheduled landing.

Earlier this year, those on board on a certain international flight went through a terrifying brief five-second of severe turbulence. One passenger passed away and numerous people sustained injuries, as individuals not fastened in were thrown from their seats and were slammed back.

In-flight turbulence is fairly routine while flying, and while cases of strong or severe turbulence are reportedly becoming more frequent, they are statistically infrequent.

Data suggests that there are around five thousand cases of significant in-flight disturbance every year, out of a sum of over 35 million aircraft departures that are conducted around the world.

Intense turbulence is categorized as when the up and down movements of a jet passing through rough air masses generate in excess of a significant G-force on your body - enough to lift you out of your seat if you were not fastened by a restraint.

As a changing climate modifies the conditions in the sky, specialists caution that air travel could become less smooth: temperature changes and altered air currents in the higher altitudes are likely to increase the regularity and severity of severe turbulence.
